Submission Guidelines
Content
Wayfarer publishes new, original content. Material taken from websites is inappropriate, because, presumably, it has already been read. If you have old stories or art sitting on your shelf or on your computer, you might consider brushing it off and making it presentable for publication, if it has not been used elsewhere. But in most cases, you should create new content for Wayfarer, rather than find or recycle it.
Anyone may submit material to Wayfarer.
All content must relate directly to MysteryAndMagic.com games. Submissions relating to non-MysteryAndMagic.com matters (e.g., video- and computer-game reviews) are disallowed.
Some examples of appropriate Wayfarer content:
|
Fiction based in MysteryAndMagic.com games. Readers want content based in the MysteryAndMagic.com games they are familiar with. Therefore, submissions based in non-game locales (e.g., a "new" continent or alternate dimension for Worlde Arcane, one that does not already exist in the game) are generally discouraged but not forbidden. A game's tendency to create new areas (e.g., The Lattice's defined grid of multiple worlds) is excepted from this stricture: for example, a story could be based on a Lattice World not present on the current website, as long as the locale is clearly set in The Lattice. Artwork. Subjects for art should derive directly from MysteryAndMagic.com games. Artwork without an explicit MysteryAndMagic.com context can be accompanied by supporting text (e.g., a picture of a dragon, which could be set in any fantasy world, can be made appropriate with a caption or paragraph placing the creature on Dragon's Peak in Worlde Arcane). Poetry based in MysteryAndMagic.com games. Comics, either single panels or strips (see "Serials" below). Character profiles. Artifact and Equipment write-ups. Essays on roleplaying in general or specifically in MysteryAndMagic.com. |
If you are uncertain about the propriety of an idea for submission, please email wayfarer@mysteryandmagic.com.
Please see the "Technical Guidelines For Submission".
Deadlines
The deadline for each issue is the first day of the month preceding the issue's publication date (e.g. the deadline for a January issue is the first day of the preceding December). Any revisions will be specified and requested within one week (the first week of the month); the contributor then has one week (the second week of the month) to revise and re-submit.
Serials
Wayfarer cannot launch serial content upon its readers without guarantee of continuation or completion. Any author wishing to establish a serial must submit a minimum of three installments of 1,500 words each for text, or three strips in the case of a serial comic. Furthermore, the author must agree that in the event of the author abandoning the serial (i.e., more than a single deadline is missed without a new installment) rights to the serial are relinquished and an "ending" will be written by another author.
Ownership And Use Of Content
All material printed in Wayfarer is considered to be co-owned by MysteryAndMagic.com and the contributor himself.
Subsequent publication rights for Wayfarer content are reserved to both MysteryAndMagic.com and the contributor; neither party needs permission from the other, although, as a matter of courtesy, consultation is greatly preferable. However, MysteryAndMagic.com requires that all content published in Wayfarer will not be made available online. Electronic dissemination of Wayfarer content insults and discourages paid subscribers.
